Life in SG: Toastmaster Club Singapore

Hmph, do you guys feel that, the smoother the time flies, the more you indulge in your comfort zone. Yeah, I believe human being is an adaptive species, we can adapt and find a way to make ourselves comfortable. If Life goes on without major obstacles or interesting opportunities, changes are what we don't want most! 要稳定，不要乱!!!

Yes, once stepped in comfort zone, it takes double the efforts to step out. You agree? 

Don't agree? Who cares. Haha

For me, I have wasted too much time! Alamak!

It is time for self improvement and be a better me! I don't want to be maggie mee but better Mr. Tee.

Ok what things I can do?! My friend shared with me 7 skills/things we can do or learn. The final goal is, we can use these skills to earn a living. 

Language, photography, culinary, music, sports, wrtting and investment. It takes me 5 minutes to write these 7 stuffs down! Short-term memory! Tired die my brain.

Yeah all sound good. Nothing is bad except you don't even try. May be you got the hidden talent in cooking leh? Who knows?

For me, I am trying something that I heard long time ago, but didn't get a chance to join. Which is.... drummmminngggg...

Toastmaster

Ngek. Who heard about this before, please raise up your hands. Anyone? Good. (Self directing and acting)

Why toastmaster!? Hmph. When you are in Singapore you will know! Locals here can speak english like shooting bullets! The speed is even faster than lightning. They don't even need to think they can speak in English nonstop. Ya, this makes me feel a bit "small" “渺小 ” . My Engelish is not so good YET. Haha. So so so, I think of joining toastmaster, 1 to improve my communication skills, 2 to networking, 3 to challenge myself.

Uh huh, this club meets three times a month, other clubs mostly meet once a month. FYI, there are a lot of toastmaster clubs in Singapore. I think a frequent meetup will be more helpful. Once a month, the progress is too slow. 

The only thing it makes me so reluctant to join is, the meet up place is in Newton! Downtown area! It will take me at least ONE HOUR to go there from my company!!! Haha. But still, I go lo. Have a look.

Visitation to this club is not FOC (sad T T). It requires 20 sgd registration fee, which is for food, refreshment, drink and hall rental. The meetup location is Sheraton hotel. Atas nyeee .

Welcomed by the registration fee, go in, take some foods n start mingling around with strangers. Ok not first time for me, so it is still ok even though I still feel a bit shy n closed. Haha.

Then here comes the main event. Basically it splits to three parts:

Firstly is, prepared speech. Members will need to join a series of presentation projects. Different projects got different themes and objectives. They will book their presentation slots and present on that day. One presentation, few minutes only. 

Then they have a round table discussion. This session is kinna interesting. The organizer has prepared some topics for impromptu speech! Members will volunteer themselves and blindly pick a paper/topic. Then they have to start their speech after gotten the topic. Some titles could be funny like, If you were a spiderman, how to let your girlfriend know your secret OR if you were SG foreign minister, what will you say to Indonesia over the haze issue. Some speakers are hilarious! Admirable and awesome. How can they speak so well o. T.T

Last round will be the evaluation on the first session, prepared speech. Evaluators, mostly distinguish + experienced toastmaster will come out and share their evaluation on the candidates. The special thing is, their evaluation will be evaluated by the audience. Haha.

All three rounds have the best presenters, voted by the audience. Prizes will be given to them as well.

How do I feel then? 

Err. I would say interesting! I think it could help me a lot on the "fear to raise up hands" for the impromptu speech, my weakest point. Honestly I can speak better when I am prepared, prepared presentation is not an issue for me. But speaking out of no way is indeed a big big challenge for me. 

Bullshitting in Mandarin is a piece of cake but not in English! I also need to learn to speak out and be proactive in expressing myself. So I would say Toastmaster can be a good self-improvement for me. Undeniable. The club is well organized, I like it. However, the annual fee is like 530 SGD o. Haha. Can it be free??? =p

I give myself one week time to consider. 

Do you think I should join? I wanna see hands! Hahaha. Ok. Feeling Positive!!! Fighting.

Life in SG : Business Trip to Japan (Throwback)

Phew~~~ 11 months have passed ~~~ I have been working in Singapore for 11 months already! 

Oh My God. Haha

And I have abandoned my blog for super duper long time. Recently my friend reminded me about this only I start to think I should write something. haha (This is what I wrote like 4 months ago, Now I really want to complete it! Let's do this!!!)

Look back and think what have I done in this 11 months?

Work, Sleep, Play and Repeat. Haha

Working as in a Separation Technology company, now only I truly know how important is a distillation column in a plant. Wakaka. Oops. 
Now life fills with Packing and Internals @@ Dizzzyyyy

But besides that I get to know more like Membrane, Liquid2 Extraction, Falling Film Evaporators and other separation technology lar. Not bad I am still in a Chemical Engineering related Company.

As an Applications and Sales Engineer, my job is mainly sales support. When get an enquiry, understand the process (Done by process engineer or by myself for internal hydraulics) and generate a quotation (Yeah I can write a proposal super fast now haha because I am a quotation generator! Joke lar~). 

Market is not really good, business is tough now~~~ :p

But Thanks God and Company, I got a chance to go Japan for a marketing and project discussion Trip! (Back in April) Wohoo~~~ Yeahhhh... 

But I am not going to write my Minutes of Meeting here, so it mainly seems like I go there to Play but I really got work ok? Days and Nights.

Lucky to have a weekend over there, so I can walk around and see how the beautiful Japan (after work).  

See See my first Sakura Experience! hahaha. Fortunately I can see some, unfortunately I miss the stunning blooming peak. This makes me super looking forward to see whole mountain and streets full of Sakura! This HaoLiao (Good Stuff) I leave it to next trip ba. hehe

I, this Half Tong also not filled de engineer, need a super technical guy to meet customer together. Any technical question ask him, I will just look at him nia. Haha. 

Great that we got the chance to travel together for a short while, here he is, Thomas, expert from Switzerland. (When I can go Switzerland a? Haha)

Some views in Tokyo - Shinjuku area if I am not mistaken. haha. Old memory in my lousy brain. Crowded with locals and tourists! I love Uniqlo there, cheap! haha. 

Of course, Tokyo Tower. Need to pay a visit this iconic place. I actually sit in the tower restaurant for like an hour (the square place in its middle). The city night view and when I am alone, make me think a lot of things, my future, my goal and etc. Those thoughts touched my sentimental inner heart. 

Looking the view in front of me and having a piece of cake with coffee. Nice place. 

The last thing to say is the Japan Food is Undeniable DELICIOUS! Almost all I love! The Sushi and fresh Shashimi, I still cannot forget them~~~ Can I have them right now? 

Thanks God for the Yummy Food in Japan. I heard that due to super intense competition, the food quality in Japan is super well maintained. If you are not good, close shop will be the destiny. @@

But thanks to this, good food is easily available in every corner of Japan. Yay!

Oh ya! Japanese is really a nice language! I don't understand at all but I love to listen to waitress says a long sentence of Japanese. Remarkable, their service is 200 marks and the language is so polite and heart-warming. Awesome! Arigato! 

Even though I don't know when will be my next business trip. But I looking forward to any in the future la.

11 months! I got lots of things to share. But leave them for next blog post ba. 

Time really flies! This is scary. I truly worry about my future, my dream and etc.

My Life In Singapore! Part 1

Long time no Blog liao leh!!! Miss me ma!!! Walao~~~ 

Haha. 

So it has been 2 months SHARP since I start working. Oh No!!! Working is not Fun. But No working is just way too boring!!! haiz. So contradicting and so 矛盾～～～ 

To begin, I have started a new chapter of life in brand new place which is Singapore! Our Malaysia's neighbor. 

Huh! Everyone will ask how is ur life in SG or How is ur work?

Here in Singapore, I not need to drive because MRT is everywhere.

Here in Singapore, cheap mixed rice is my best and most hated friend.

Here in Singapore, I got limited friends and a dearest brother. 

Here in Singapore, I am alone. Walao sound so sad, but actually I am not lonely la~ haha

Alright, First job in my life in Sulzer Chemtech - Process Technology department as an Applications and Sales Engineer. A challenging work with all sorts of separation technology. Is very true that work is not only about the knowledge you have, but the way to communicate with people. I got a lot a lot of things to learn. I everyday pray that I do not mistakes, or else I will feel depressed. Haha. This is so stressful~~~ But this is normal la, people hire you and surely will expect you to do well. 

In short, I like my job and hope I will continue to like it and can shine bright lar - Feeling positive.

How about life beyond work? 

Hmpph, meeting friends and brother is what I like do. Chitchatting and walking around. Not much time to have them since we all stay at different places and having different daily lives. 

Appreciate them and hope to know more friends. ;)

What else I do? My daily routine is super standard :

Wake Up, Work, Back Home with mixed rice, Watch Drama/康熙来了, Play Dota2, Read Bible and Sleep. 

If anyone wanna kidnap me, they can easily track where I go and what time I will be there. Even the mixed rice, I also buy from same hawker center. Hahaha. 

But I do have a healthy lifestyle de lor~ like Jogging every Saturday and sometime go swimming. I love sweating like open a water hose. Feeling so good man!

Besides, I also have a new hobby which is COOKING! I only know how to make soup. From very tasteless soup, until now very tasty already. hahaha. IMPROVEMENT! This is an example of satisfied result:

Still Miss my dearest friends in Malaysia. Hope one day I can visit them ALL. haha.

Pu Tien Restaurant 莆田@ Jurong Point

Food Review! Long time no do this, shall use food reviews to make my blog alive dy. Thanks to blogger apps in phone, I can write blog on MRT. Haha

Since I am in Singapore, definitely will accidentally eat dao Good N Delicious Food! "Accidentally" in term of "discover unexpectedly" and "Eating good stuff only when meet friends" haha. Life is tough a! =p

Ok, when you tasted something delicious in Singapore, you would scream and shout to the world. Haha. Because long queue here doesn't ALWAYS mean Awesome Food ya. Taste bud of Malaysian is troublesome too (难搞的挑).

Alright, enuf nonsense. Let's talk about the food in Pu Tien 莆田 in Jurong Point. It looks indeed an expensive chinese restaurant. High class and elegant. I was deeply attracted by its Pu Tien Lor Mee which is full of seafood inside. That's the reason I go in. XD --- Oops I am easily manipulated by good images? Thanks God this time, I have no regrets.

They will serve some appetizers like  seaweed peanut and pickled fruit. This costs SGD 5. And I ordered chrysanthemum tea for xinyi and I. SGD 1.50 per person.

The menu is super well designed as well. It successfully illustrates the tastiest look of each food. It is a chinee restaurant so what they offer is from vegetables to fish, chicken to pork and seafood. Normal dishes (toufu, vege, chicken, etc)cost from SGD 6 up to few tens. Of course some luxurious foods like crabs, abalone and fishes will cost more =D

Not to forget their signiture Putien LorMee, rice and Mee Sua.

Oh they have Sets for 2, 4, 6 and 8 as well (like in standard chinese restaurant)

I am not rich enough to taste the delicate n luxurious dishes. But I would like to share my taste bud experience on the affordable dishes like:

Putien LorMee - SGD 8.90

Clams and Prawn make the soup very fresh and umami (鲜). I believe there is secret recipe inside to make it addictive. The noodle is gham gham (suitably) soft n nice. The most important thing is It Is Big enuf to fill up your stomach! Haha. Overall = ****

Stir-fried Chilli Live Clams - SGD 12.90 

Moderate spicy but the freshness and Umami (鲜) taste is still significant in the soup. Clams are tasty with the soup toooooo. It is suitable for 2 persons ya.  Overall = ****

Max Stars are *** ***

Total expenditure for both of us is SGD 45.50. Okok la (p/s: I have to eat grass for few days liao. Haha. Kidding)

Big Hero 6 - Entertaining Movie

Feeling stress? Don't know how to unleash? I recommend you this movie: Big Hero 6 from Walt Disney!

It is a cartoon but a hilarious one. You can laugh out REALLY Loud. Wahahahaha.

Even though i believe everyone is crazy about hunger game, this Big Hero 6 is not losing ok? Because I hear Mocking Jay has too much talking =p

The movie, it is all about a genius boy (Hero) and a cute fatty robot. The robot (baymax) is so damn C.U.T.E ! Everyone will love him ok?!

Join their adventurous revenge journey. You will like it.

Walking in The Merlion City - Singapore !

OK! I have to Admit being Unemployed is Somehow Super Boring Xia Xia ~ Haha. I wanted to go far far far away during this precious period. 

But at the end Can't go anyway, no one accompanies to Bangkok, I have decided to have a walk in Singapore. Actually the decision is made after persuaded by Mr Fendy. 

People thought I go there to work, actually just walk walk nia haha. 

Fendy and I met during the Korea Exchange back in 2012. We are good friends since then. One of Few that I Keep in Touch with. 

After some planning and some surveys on Facebook, there are some conclusions...

Cheapest Hostel is The Prince of Wales Hostel@ Little India (18 SGD only - But this is a promotion in August)

The Cheapest Ticket for USS is less than 60 SGD (through some secret contacts, BUT unfortunately the cheap tickets are all SOLD OUT!!! Due to Hot season!)  So I brought the Maybank promo tickets using Maybank debit card with 63 SGD each (through their website) and free one photo.

OK! Let's the Journey Begin! (21 August - 24 August 2014)

Take 3 hours bus to Larkin Terminal from Bukit Gambir and around 1 hour to reach Little India, Singapore.

I rush like crazy in the Kastam ( Write white card and Chop Passport ) - Everyone is moving like WIND! Terribly Fast - Like Rush to get GOLD in Singapore!!!

Finally I have met this GUY from INDONESIA!!! After 2 years time, Long time No See XD

Mr Fendy requests to visit the National Museum of Singapore after his arrival. WHAT? Museum? Not my cup of tea BUT Ok to pay a visit there Because it is Free after 6 pm. =D

There is a mysterious Stair Case in National Museum! I just google it, it is Listed in The Enduring Ghost Story in Singapore! hahaha... Hopefully the photos taken by Fendy do not have "sth" extra inside. So i better Don't post the photo here HAHA XD (actually I didn't take it la)

After Cheap dining in canteen of SMU (a University), we have a short walk on Orchard Road and then departed to Marina Bay Sand. 

The Night view of the skyscrapers nearby is Stunning! I love it so much. It excites and makes me wish to WORK already! Feel so Good to work in beautiful office huh!? Haha

Then, we enjoy the air cond in The Marina Shoppes and Marina Bay Sand hotel. There is a observation corner beside the hotel to see the Garden By The Bay. The colourful artificial gigantic trees in The garden changes colours consistently, they are very beautiful. I love the windy environment at there too. So relaxing! 

Oh ya! That day is my FIRST TIME to enter the Casino in my life!!! hahaha. wohoo. What i like most is not the gambling (I don't Gamble), but FREE carbonated drink and coffee !!! hahahaha... When feeling thirsty, can go in there o =P

The next thing that everyone cannot miss out is The Water and Light Show ( Wonder Full ). It is performed on the lake just outside the Marina Shoppes. There are seats and the show is really HD + awesome! I like it very much! Create something wonderful out from a very ordinary lake! Bravo!

Long time didn't walk for long distance, it makes me super tired =.=

So we head back to hostel after the show ~

There is a small living room outside the dorm in POW hostel. We sit down there and head down for phone! After awhile, there is an indian friend starts a "Hallo" conversation with the other 2 Americans at there. Of course I join in! We have a wonderful talking time and share a lot of things. Most of them are new to me! hahaha. I know too little already! New friends but we have talked around 3 hours! Wohoo! I love talking to new friends (But actually I am the listener, they are really too good in talking hahaha)

1.00 am already! It is time to sleep! Next day will be an exciting day. 

Because we are going to Universal Studio Singapore!!!

Due to heading to collect the ticket for Garden By the Bay, we are LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

OMG! WHOLE WORLD is queuing to ENTER USS already!!! JUST LATE FOR 40 MIN only. PEOPLE MOUNTAIN PEOPLE SEE already! So SAD!!!

First thing to do after go in is to redeem the free photo voucher. 

After that STRAIGHT Rush To the 

Transformer Ride

But unfortunately! we need to wait for 1 and a Half hour!!!!!!!!

Almost fainted already. So terrible! But still this is the main point of the USS, Just Queue ba~~~

Luckily I am not alone, chit chat with Fendy makes me not so bored. Haha. The queue is very 贱 (Cheating)！When I think the queue is going to end, but still a long way to go!!! OMG =.=

But for sure, the long wait is totally WORTHY! The ride is DAMN Amazing!!! It is a 4D ride. Sit on a small roller coaster and move. The 3D effect and the movement on the Ride are SO SO SO SO REAL! O.O

WAO!!! Even though it is a 3-4 minutes Ride, I like it extremely much! So wish to try again, but the forever long queue stops me =.=

Actually the design of USS is quite fantastic. I love the Euro and the States de feel, the Hollywood street, and the buildings. Feeling like travel to a Non-Asia country. 

Never forget to mention The second BEST ride will be the Mummy Roller Coaster!!!

It is a indoor roller coaster, quite short but FUN. 

Unfortunately we also queue for 1 and 15 min for it! Haiz!!! just for the one min ride XD

But it is a MUST-TRY ride in USS!

(remember to sit at the left-est or right-est seat ya - It is more EXCITING!)

P/S: Before we leave USS, we take the ride again and the main point is, the waiting time is only 20 min =.=

Of course the design of the mummy zone is full of ancient stuff. Typical. haha

Next station will be the Jurassic Park. For me, nothing so exciting la. if no queue can try all things there. haha.

After the dinosaurs, it is time for fairy tales! 

Far Far Castle 

There is a 4D short film adventure. It is also a MUST-TRY in USS. 

You will be seated like in cinema, BUT

the chair will move following the film and you will get WET! haha. Because they spray (little) water on us. and MIST too.

Other than all the rides and adventure, there are some SHOWs too. Remember to get a show list (got show time on it) from the counter. 

There are transformer, dinosaur, Madagascar and other live shows.

But I only watch the Transformer show. Haha. The show actually serves as a Photo-shooting session with the characters only. =D

We settle our dinner at the MALAYSIA FAMOUS FOOD COURT beside the USS (Left side of the main entrance)

They serve a lot of Malaysia food, just, not tasty one. The so called Klang Bak Kut Teh there is totally a Singapore Style Bak Kut Teh and not tasty at all. I don't know others lar~ 

I believe this is a place to get cheap food and humiliating Malaysia Food as well haha XD 

Tips to visit USS

1. Go on Mon-Thurs

2. Arrive before 10 am

3. Don't bring bags! (some rides cannot bring bags along)

4. Water dispensers are everywhere inside

5. Go Transformer first -> Mummy Ride -> Jurassic Park -> Far Far Castle -> Madagascar (this is the Normal route)

Unfortunately the outdoor roller coaster is shut down and new one is being built. So wait until both open only Go. haha

My legs feel damn pain after visit to USS, long stand and walk torture my beloved legs too much hahaha.

Oh well... Skip everything to the next station after USS, 

The ChinaTown

Not my first time but here really can get nice food yo~

I call it a day. Time to rest~~~ 

The next day we head to the typical tourist spot -- The Merlion

Yeah, nothing special, haha

The second typical location is the Garden By the Bay

This is a Great place to go actually. The big artificial trees are free to visit! Remember this! haha

The Garden is a place to buy flower and enjoy the beauty of the nature. 

But if you wish to walk on the bridge (OCBC bridge), 5 SGD will be charged. There is a restaurant on one of them as well (Expensive stuff). XD

There are 2 air-conditioned indoor gardens: Dome Garden and Cloud Forest.

Unfortunately, you need to pay to enter. I brought at discounted price from Qoo10. 

No regret to enter these 2 places! because of the AIR-COND! hahaha. The big hot day, air-cond is what we need! Besides that the plants and flowers inside are worth a visit too. There is a variety of flowers and trees displayed. The nice scenery + the cool air = Perfect! haha. I like it. 

It will be better if I can read my book inside there. Syoknye~~~

For food, there is an affordable hawker centre there, named Satay By the Bay. The food there is quite OK =D

After the garden, we go to the Ocean park in Sentosa. Nothing interesting, because it is included in the package, so we go there lo. Purposely go there for Dolphin show only. hehe

Oright, Dinner time. Fendy dates his girl friend from Indonesia to meet up at Orchard Road. XD

She is a nice girl, beautiful as well. Haha. 

But Fendy suddenly becomes so Energetic after meeting her. Hormone effect or ??? haha actually he said he can speak Indonesia language with her, so he feels comfortable and homed! Oisee~

The best part is, we brought super Cheap Monopod (3 SGD only) haha XD

We talk a lot about Jakarta. They take 2 hours to go work and 3 hours to go home after working EVERYDAY!. All thanks to the terrible traffic there X.X oops, KL some time is better leh~ Haha

Time flies! Fendy is going back to Indonesia liao~ Before 6 am on the next day, he left the hostel already. Me? of course continue to sleep lor. haha. 

After having simple breakfast with 2 beautiful German, I depart to the next interesting place - City Harvest Church!!!

You know?! The church is in a Shopping Mall! It is in a convention center! Oh my Gosh! What a blessed and huge church! haha. 

I join the chinese service and guess who I meet. 

The pastor who giving sermon is Rev. Gu! from 台湾 新生命小组教会 !!! I have seen him 3 times in Taiwan. So 有缘 haha. His sermon teaches us, everyone has very own purpose on this earth! We shall live out what God wants us to do - Glorify and honour His name.  

I also meet Pastor Kong from CHC. He is having law suit. Google it ba. Pray for him. 

I super like their praise and worship. So touching my heart~~~ Tears pop out pula =.= haha... Bravo!

After the church, it is time for lunch! I date my brother and tell him that "I am super duper pekchek / bored with Hawker Food!" I want something expensive!!! hahahaha

He brings me to a shopping mall in Jurong East. We have western food, pasta and pizza. I love the environment of the restaurants, Foods are so so only. Don't know why so many people inside. XD

We chit chat happily for 3 hours I think, then it is time for me to leave Singapore liao. Big thanks for my bro for the treat o <3

Bye bye Singapore!!! 

Stupid me, taken a wrong bus and gone to JB. haha... Actually I wanna go Larkin larrrr hahaha. Funny!

The trip to the sophisticated, advanced and clean Singapore makes me wish to work there sooooo much! haha. I like there. Pray hard for a job offer. so far no one wants me. GG.com

The trip also lets me meet up with my long lost friend, Fendy. We have a great time together! hehe =D #BFF

The trip also spice up my boring life at home as well. haha.

I wanna watch movies non-stop and talk non-stop! hahaha.
